Joel Love is a young composer from Houston, Texas whose music is a synergy of styles. Ranging from Monk to Messiaen, his music and interests are eclectic. His compositions have been performed both domestically and internationally.

In 2005, he began a relationship with Gordan Williams, of G Sharp Productions, that has resulted in two critically acclaimed films: Gemini and Surviving Rita: Looking Forward. Both these films have won honors in over ten film festivals across the nation. 

In 2007, his choral composition “O nata lux” was performed at the International Choral Festival in Panama City, Panama. And in 2008, his original score for the independent short “Frieda Gilroy” set the tone for the piece and helped propel the film to several awards.

 

He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Composition from the University of Houston, primarily studying with Rob Smith. His other teachers include Nick Rissman, and Andrew List. 

In addition to composition, Joel also pursues an affinity for jazz piano, gigging regularly at several venues ranging from Lake Charles, LA, to Austin, TX. His piano teachers include Betsy Hines, Jimmy Simmons, and Jay Collier.
